mesa 6x10

i recently aquired a mesa 6x10 in a trade. i have put a call in to mesa but was wondering if anyone hear may give me a idea what is going on with it. i was fully aware of this problem when i made the trade and the previous owner thought it may be a blown speaker. i have fired it up and for about 30 seconds it is completly clean and great sounding. then this almost harmonic distortion starts and robs the cab of all its juice. at first i thought i had it nailed down to one speaker, then it seemed to move to a different one and left the one i thought it was in. this seems to be happening mostly on the low e string and some of the other lower notes. all notes on the g string sound fine, and most of the mid range notes sound fine. i dont know alot about speaker cabs but i was thinking maybe the input jack or if there is a x-over in the cab that may not be working right? any thought would be appreciated.
