To compare the pricing, you have to back out the taxes. Your taxes are higher because they include things like healthcare that we pay for separately, something that's conveniently forgotten when comparing pricing...

This difference covers the transportation costs, the company registration and operating costs within the EU and UK, the inland freight, the service network, the absurdly high costs of safety and EMC certifications (including all of the various national differences between countries even though they are all "harmonized" within the EU community (not really, only partially "harmonized"), translations of all owner's manuals, service documentation and all the various government fees that are part of operating within each different country within the EU (plus UK).
The differences between EU and US prices are not really all that different.
