Mesa availability in Europe?

For the Subway 112:

Converting to US pricing, deducting 20% GB VAT (-172 euro) = 860 GBP
Convert currency: 860 GBP = $1069 USA equivalent.

Current price at Sweetwater (USA) is $999

The extra $70 just covers the additional freight, the import fees and general EU duty percentage (including clearing and customs registration) which all typically runs about 7% (it varies with the UK often being more).

So $999 x 1.07(%) = $1069 equivalent to USA without the EU/UK specific costs, so it's clear that the EU/UK players are being treated exactly the same as the US players are treated.

Based on current prices at Thomann I have to pay roughly the equivalent of $1800 for a WD-800 and $2100 for a TT-800. That's significantly higher prices than in the US!!!

Part of the explanation is the added VAT of course but even when deducting the VAT these amps are roughly $400 more expensive from Thomann compared to current prices at Sweetwater.

When comparing with other hybrid amps from Thomann these two Mesa amps are also roughly twice as expensive as an Orange Terror Bass or a Markbass Little Mark Vintage 1000 and also considerably more expensive than a Fender Bassman 800.

I could even buy an all-tube Ampeg V-4B from Thomann for roughly the same as the WD-800 and considerably less than the TT-800. This is very different from US pricing where the Mesa amps are both much less expensive than a V-4B.

Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to pay for a quality product, and I've been excited about these amps FINALLY becoming available for the European market, but at these prices I have a feeling these amps won't be quite as successful in Europe as they've been in the US.

The WD is listed at €1500 with VAT included on Thomann which when converted to dollars is $1630. Now deduct 20% VAT and the result is just a little more than in the US.

I guess Thomann must offer an extremly poor exchange rate then. I'm in Europe but outside the Euro zone so the prices I get from the Thomann webshop are in a different currency. Unfortunately, buying from the Euro zone is my only option with Mesa, as there isn't a single dealer that sell Mesa amps in my country. There used to be, but not anymore.

But the relative differences between these Mesa amps and the other amps I mentioned is still a valid point I think. Why are Mesa amps comparatively so much more expensive in Europe vs US than these other amps?

When using the German/Euro prices from Thomann (incl. VAT):

-Orange Bass Terror 839 €
-Fender Bassman 800 1379 €
-Mesa WD-800 1499 €
-Mesa TT-800 1799 €

In the US (Sweetwater):

-Orange Bass Terror $849
-Mesa WD-800 $1199
-Fender Bassman 800 $1249
-Mesa TT-800 $1399

This is just a comparison of the most similarly prices hybrid amps that are available from both stores. If I was in the US and looked at the Orange Bass Terror I might have considered stretching my budget a bit and get one of the Mesas instead. But in Europe the Mesas are in a completely different price range.

I don’t know. If the cost makes them non-competitive, then they aren’t the right amps for you or the region you live in. Sorry.

I always judged by performance not cost; IE: If you can find a better Amp in both Sound, features and Build quality in this case for same or less than $1499 Great

If not then WD 800 at EU price is your Best Value regardless; even if a 2K retail Amp was on Sale for $1499 but inferior in my evaluation

If I couldn't afford $1499 I would use same Logic in my price range

For us European bassists, the D800+ has just been listed as "new" on the Thomann website, and the price is lower that of the D800 for some reason.

Looks like some kind of special, makes no sense to
me but if it’s not a mistake is an awfully good deal for EU players.

I mean, in my case, I won't order it online without trying, because I already have several amps that I love and I would need to sell one before buying a Mesa.

So it's nice to know we can order them from the Gibson or Thomann website as soon as they're back in stock, but I would have hoped to find it in a physical store, at least in a major capital city like Paris.

This is entirely up to the dealers in France.

I am curious as to where the 800D falls on the tone scale to a Sisma 😊
