Have you tried the driver tube swap yet? It cleans up the mids considerably, but I keep mine lower, too, around 4-5. I have a VERY hard attack and a ton of midrange in my tone because of that.

i have no idea how you guys can run the mids at 10... i have to cut mine back to at least 6 otherwise it is just way too "honky."

Are you saying that a 12au7 swap will make it sound more in the direction of an SVT? How so? Personally I think my 400+ has way more bottom than my '76-79 SVT ever had, but nowhere near the puch and growl. Each one has its strengths IMHO.
