Mesa Boogie M9 Megathread: Pt II

Oh yeah. The video clips are amazing. (Listen with goo speakers or headphones.) They also addressed some things, like making the voice control foot-switchable and being able to turn the tube power section off if you want to run the head dry for recording.

This might be a dumb question, as I actually haven't tried it yet, but do effects pedals sound good in the effects loop on the M9, or is that really more for multi-effects processors? Also, if effects pedals do sound good, are there certain ones that tend to sound/work better than others?

In my humble opinion, the M9 is great for bright clear clean tone with very flexible EQ, great lows when needed, good compression, tons of power, 2 ohm loads, DI with gain and post/pre control, and a typical effects loop.

If you have a pedal or a processor you like, surely you can find something you dig with an M9. I have used a 'BaseBalls' pedal occasionally, and it works well. Honestly, I think your question is not answerable in any concrete way.

If you are looking for loud, great sounding, and flexible EQ—I think you will be able to use whatever effects you wish with good results.

I've definitely had good results with the ones I've used so far. I was just curious about the effects loop, because I've never used it on this amp or any other amp for that matter. I've always ran the few effects I use into the front of the amp. Thanks for the input though.

The effects loop should be used for time-based effects, whereas overdrives, etc should be used in front of the amp. The best way is to give it a try and see if you like the results! Thanks!

Going to take my M9 off the market because I had an awesome time playing it tonight. Yeah it is heavy and wants to pull y arms off but I love the clean headroom with the Berg CN212. Just amazing. Still looking to buy a TH500 for the super light option as the 350 has been good but not enough clean headroom with this cab. Selling soon the 350, a Walkabout, PF350, and probably the MicroVR half stack and MB200. I bought all those thinking I could make due with a smaller head but the M9 inspires with the awesome tones from my Lull MV5. Cheers

You might consider a Gallien Krueger MB800. As far as micro heads are concerned, to me it is the closest to the M9 in power and tone color, though the EQ is not as flexible or as easy to use. :cool:

Thanks Chef. I went ahead and bit the bullet on the 400+. Man I really missed this thing. Sadly, the M9 must now go. :(

I thought the DG sticker looked cool and made a nice addition to the amp. The amp and pedals also complement each other well. (As if either one needed any help; lol.)

Im intrigued with the PH212 cabs.. Im also gonna get an M6... Had the Fathom years ago.. LOUD as all HECK!!!!!! Tight.. The M6 is just nice and simple front end..
Funny thing is , Ive been using the Walkabout on many gigs and on big gigs too with an ampeg 810! Sounds great thru that big cab. Plenty loud..
