MESA CABS: Player control network

i set mine same as that picture but i may be about to experiment becuase things are getting a bit clanky live.
i changed mine for a gig last night and i liked it much better i turned the dial down to -2db and put the rocker switch on 4k sheen
When I use the Walkabout 12 combo by itself:
- High Range cut a bit more than yours, say about -1db
- Crossover set at 5k (normal)
When I use the Walkabout 12 stacked on top of the Scout 15:
- 12 = High Range straight up, Crossover set at 4k (sheen)
- 15 = High Range cut midway -1db, Crossover set at 5k (normal)
sometimes I substitute a PH 1x12 for the Scout 15 as an ext for the Walkabout. I set it the same way I set the Scout in those situations.
all of these set-ups offer great tone IMO and IME

5K and rolled back a bit on both cabs. The tweaters on these cab are really nice and smooth, IMO.

what does the high range and the cross over do to my tone?

I plug the 1/4 into the jack with no control/no label i.e. model, ohms etc on my 2x15 diesel and it pounds! I guess they got more sophisticated since it was made..... Sorry I'm just sayin..
The Mesa player control allows you to set the crossover point of your Mesa cabs at 3 different points 3k, 4k, 5k. Roughly speaking this control tells the cab at what frequency point to send the highs to the tweets on your cabs. Its a nice control, particularly with 2 cabs like your set-up. You can play with these a bit and get the best tone for your ears with this feature. Its somewhat subtle though, so don't expect massive sound differences.
The other control being discussed here is the tweeter level control. You can push it or cut it +/- 2db on the Mesa cabs. This means that you can lower the "brightness" of your cabs sound. You'll notice that most players who have posted here are either running the control flat or cut, rather than pushed much.
