Mesa Power Ratings

Hi all, have confidently made the decision to shift from my Berg to the 2x Mesa PH112s, after much A/Bing, the Mesa is in no way inferior. Just different - and a great kind of different. The weight is absolutely manageable. About the same as the HDN212 and in a smaller box.

With that being said, I do not use tweeters at all. Probably a question for @agedhorse …

I’m wondering if removing the tweeter and probably more so, the crossover system would subtract any significant weight from the boxes (4-5lb+)? And more importantly potentially have any negative impacts on the tone of the box due to missing components and tuning? Given the weight is manageable this is verging on a silly question, but a few kg off would certainly make these more manageable with one hand!

Removing the tweeters and crossovers might save 2-3 lbs, but IMO is more work than any real benefit it brings, and when it comes to selling down the road if the parts are missing (from getting lost, yes it happens a lot) the cabinet will lose much of its value. I’m of the opinion to leave it alone.

Thanks so much, certainly the response I was looking for :) I’ll definitely keep them in there if they’re that negligible in terms of weight. I’d also probably be getting a technician to carry out the work so likely overcapitalising on the cabs too, especially if I did manage to hang onto them and have to pay again upon resale to get them reinstalled. But hey…let’s hope these are here to stay! :)
