Mesa through ampeg cabs

hi guys!
I may be stupid but I haven't found much when I did a search of this topic!
I found threads of ampegs through mesa cabs, but not vice versa, and there wasn't much being said about this option so I was wondering if I could get some input!
what are your opinions?
rock/alt/metal soundwise - how do the ampeg cabs work through the mesa heads?they seem to be a bit fatter than the mesa ones,they seem to have a bit less ounch to them!
so what are your opinions?

I use a mesa d-180 with an ampeg 4X10 think it sounds brill, especially with some distortion wacked on it does have a really full phat sounds sound great basicly!

Which ampeg cab?

The 810E has such a distinctive sound that it tends to sound like an 810E no matter what you put in front of it. I've heard them sound good with SVT-2s, SVT-4s, SM-400s, 800RBs, you name it ... so I'm sure it would be great with an M-pulse or Big Block.

Better than with an Ampeg head though?

It's very subjective. If it sounds good to you, that's really all that matters. I have both Ampeg, and Mesa gear. They're very different, but I like both. I have mix and matched a bit, but usually the other way around, Ampeg heads, Boogie cabs. Whatever you do, though, it's your ears that matter. The average "listener" couldn't tell the difference between anything, they just hear the house mix, and that's it. We tend to care too much about our sound, and that's ok with me. Just please yourself.

I personally use the Mesa M Pulse 600 through an Ampeg 4x10 and 15. The Mesa has some great tone and pretty great EQing plus built in compression, while from what I've heard the Ampeg cab speakers are a bit more durable than Mesa's.
I often go for the upper mid rangy sound a la Geddy Lee, and it does that plus it gets some pretty hefty cojones from that Mesa warmth.
I've heard that lots of people use this sort of setup, kind of like how guitarists will use Marshal cabs with their Mesas. It's just a different kind of sound that we like!

I use my MPulse 600 through an SWR Henry 8x8 cab and it smokes.

There's really not a cab out there that this head won't rock through.

Hi,
I'm not really new to the forum, but still this is my first post.
I love my Mesa Big Block 750 and was looking for a suitable cab for a traditional tone. The Mesa cab are simply divine, powerful and versatile. Yet I found my tone in a mid-70s Ampeg SVT 810. The combination indeed sounds dark and mellow, but its great for all sorts of rock and alternative. So it really is a "cool idea"

Bad choice for soloing artists and funky players by the way...

I play a Mesa Walkabout through a Ampeg Portabass 2X10 on small gigs. They work well together for low to medium volume stuff.

I owned a Walkabout Scout 1X12 for a while and everyone that I played with preferred the tone of the Ampeg. That should give you some idea of how well the Mesa and the Ampeg work together.

For larger gigs I use a pre-Fender SWR Henry 8X8. Mesa cabinets are just too heavy IMO.

I just pullsed the walkabout head out of my walkabout scout and played with through a 810e Fridge and it sounded REALLY good. I was worried the walkabout wouldn't push the 810 hard enough, but it really held its own. To my ears, just as loud as my AG500 through it.

I have used my Eden WT-400 with my 810 and was very pleasantly surprised how well it worked. I usually use the Eden with a 210 Portabass or a 410HLN.

I know, the Walkabout is incredible! I was told by Jorg Schroeder that Mesa has done extensive testing running the Walkabout at 2 ohms with no problems. It's got a lot more power than many other amps that are rated at 300 watts.

I think my M-Pulse 600's manual even states it can run at 2 ohms, as long as it's well ventilated. I'd have no issues running mine at 2, if I got another 4 ohm cab.

I am using an Mpulse 360 through an Ampeg Portabass 2x10. Best tone I have ever had, even when I had a Mesa Roadready 4x10 cab. It may lose the bottom B if played at volume - otherwise a great rig.
