Got me a walkabout scout 15" ,silver face model,
Overall sounds real good. Must have been at the store for
quite sometime, it was rather dusty,,,only complaint so far is that the internal cooling fan is as loud as a 747 passenger
Jet....serial # is wk 004274 , not sure how old the amp
really is,,,took sometime tweeking the eq,,,but got it dialed in
    Good...I give it thumbs up.

great amp, hope you enjoy it.
Mine was originally in the 12" combo and I also owned/gigged with a Scout 15 extension cab for a while, as well as in a 2x12 (both WA/Scout cabs).
The 15 will at least get more out of the amp, where the 12 did not stand up to higher volumes very well (after all, just a 1x12 and not a particularly efficient 1x12 at that).

My cooling fan was never terribly loud, but it's pretty easy to mod the amp for a quieter fan that still pulls the right amount of air to cool the amp (there are very clear instructions in one of the Walkabout threads).

Many other WA users have found that pulling the head and running the amp with more drivers (2x12, 2x15, 6x10 etc) really makes the Walkabout come alive. My personal choice/favorite pairing is with the Berg CN212, but the WA sounds great with pretty much any cab combination I have tried.

    enjoy!

Nice score! I would contact Mesa customer support and see what they can recommend on the fan. One of my WA's is of the same vintage and the fan is audible, but not loud or intrusive/annoying. As pfschim suggested I suspect there is an appropriate replacement option that will not compromise the thermal management parameters - let Mesa customer support help you find that option.

Congrats on getting a WA. I've had my 12" for 12 years now and still have no desire to replace it and if I did I'd get one of the new WA800's. Just a great amp that meets all my needs. Ymmv of course.

One question though. Where is the serial number located? Inside the amp chassis?

    Question I have,,,,This is the 4ohm version,,,,but both speaker outputs say 8ohms,,,,Why ?? If I match it with a 4ohm ext. cab
That brings it down to 2ohm load....is it ok to run at 2ohms....
I have 8ohm PH4x10,,,then I should prolly just unplug the internal speaker anyway to run the 4x10 ???

the WA is not intended to run a load less than 4ohms.
now, that being said, many here have run the WA at 2.67 or 2ohms with no issues .... but again, the official Mesa word on this is that 4ohms is the limit and running it with less of a load will potentially release the magic smoke.

so, yes, unplug the combo cab to run your 4ohm 4x10. Many WA users have just pulled the head from the combo and run any number of other cabs .. usually multiple driver cabs with greater efficiency than the WA/Scout cabs.

    good luck, enjoy the WA
