Mesa Walkabout stack quesrion

I did a search and didn't come up with the answer so here goes.

So, I have the Walkabout combo and matching extension cab. It's the stack I bought from fellow TB'er projectappollo linked here (and pic attached with his SR).

With the passive radiator thingies on the bottom, would I be better off stacking these two cabs or placing them side by side on the floor? I know that stage construction will have something to do with it, but in most cases what do you think? Thank you!

Zero issue regarding the passive radiator. In general, stacking the cabs vertically is better. Better near field monitoring due to the top cab being closer to your ear, and a touch better spread of the top end of your tone around the stage.

The passive radiator just acts similar to a port, and has more to do with cab tuning versus any sound actually eminating from that port.

Thanks! I get a lot of compliments from guitar players on how they look, and a lot of compliments from bass players on how they look and SOUND.

The rig itself leans towards the boomy side, but my Roscoe Beck sig Fender leans a little bright. The combination sits in a really nice sweet spot that works well with what each does best. I haven't GAS'ed for a single piece of gear since I heard all of it together.

I've got a Walkabout that I love, but I sometimes wish the cab was one of their custom offerings. I've thought about grabbing a different grill cloth for it, but it's not a big enough deal for me to worry about right now. No complaints sound wise from me, I really like it. Hmm...maybe I'll gig it tomorrow night.

IIRC, when your cabs came around for sale I think I was trying to figure out a way to scrape together to get em'

I have a WA 12 + Scout 12 ext cab rig too. Mine are just std Black Bronco with black grilles, so they are not as nice looking as yours, but of course they operate just the same
I always stack mine rather than go side by side.

The passive radiators do not produce and sound by themselves, they are just there to allow the cab to be tuned as low as it is for its relatively small size. So, there should be absolutely no issues when stacking.

FWIW, I have also got myself a pair of wood wedges that I set between the bottom and top cabs. This tilts the top cab about 20 degrees up, more towards my ears, and allows me to hear my WA rig even better than just stacking them. I put some rubber feet on the bottom of the wedges so they do not wear on the top of the lower cab. It's an easy mod and does improve how much I hear my rig on stage when I do not get FOH.

That's a great idea! I never thought of that. I'm going out to the shop and look around for wood.
