Mesaboogie 400+ what current smallish cab would you pair with this?

Im a huge fan of 15's currently using two of my all time favorite cabs the bagend15D with my current stage rig a rumble 500.... I have the aguilar TH700 and SL410X cab at home thats too nice to bring to dive bars.. my mesa400+ has been sitting for years on a Powerhouse 1000 because that cab is too big nowadays ( especially when guitar players are using 2x12s and combos) I need a really nice 1x15 cab to pair with the 400+ whats hot right now that also wouldn't look too out of place under the head.

I would get a Barefaced Big Baby 3 (13.5kg/30lbs), but the obvious answer is a Subway 1x15 (17kg/37.9lbs)

Both would look great and sound great with the 400+, still keeping the weight manageable.

The Barefaced Big Baby is a 1x12, but it sounds deeper than most 1x15 cabs and it's FRFR.

Mesa is very balanced no mid hump or scoop and for me very FRFR for a Bass Cab

If you crank tweeter on Mesa( I don't) it to can easily be used for PA or Home Stereo use as could Big Baby but not what I want for my Bass Tone

Haha, I too prefer the Super Compact but it's narrower than the 400+ and I don't like T shape stacks.

I must be missing something. Why wouldn't you just use one of the Bag End cabs?

I sold my Bass 400 ( not a plus ) but when I had it, it always sounded good with the old Mesa Boogie 15 for lower volume and added a 210 when the gig got louder.

But I really liked it when I used 2 EA Whizzy M-Line but I did watch the volume. I sold the Mesa cabs first and for a while these and another 110 were my only cabs ( and a crappy Avatar ). I now have the Prodigy and I still have the EA cabs

I think a Subway 15 and 210 would be a great combo

Yeah, use 1 Bag End when you’re keeping volume reasonable, 2 when you want to crank it up.

I never realized how small the Subway 115 appears till I saw the pic above, but it's internal air volume is good as the cab is almost a cube.

The cube shape has no impact on its performance.

It’s smaller and lighter than the PH 115 with better flow frequency extension and power handling.

I apologize I did not communicate correctly, I was not meaning that the cube shape is special in any way, just that a cube is dimensionally more compact per a given volume than say if we made a box that's 3' by 2' by 8 inch deep. We know bass response is related to internal volume not whether it's a cube or a triangle shaped box. In the HiFi world I actually prefer boxes that have different internal dimensions to help reduce internal standing wave resonances occuring at the same frequency. For bass, it's probably less of an issue though.

I agree, some parts of the HiFi world are nuts, like $10,000 speaker cables, misleading advertising etc. I'm in audio as a hobbyist, repairing dead amps, designing or repairing speakers, learning anything I can. Leaving a job for moral reasons, I respect that a lot.

Speaking of amp overhang: I've never been comfortable gigging my D-180 or 400+ without a rack case. Some other cases might be narrower or wider, but my old Pearson case is 1-3/4" wider than my 215 Mesa Subway cab.
