Meshell Ndegeocello...the best groove bassist?

I wouldn't call her the best, but she is awfully good. If you want a favorite bassist, you could do a whole lot whole lot worse!
ok the best is silly to say i guess.. i should know better.... but i do think shes super groove..amazing musical mind also... a special musician...
One of the funkiest players on the planet... and "the funkiest" (not best) female player for sure.

Great composer, too! No two of her albums sound the same, and she keeps ebvolving and changing things up.
Am I the only one that just does not like Divinity Roxx playing? Not that she's bad but on a list of fantastic female bassists she doesn't seem to fit anywhere. I reacted to her the same way I reacted to some of the more recent Verdine White stuff "Wuh...?".
As others have said, the idea of "best" doesn't really hold any water for me. Having said that, Me'shell is at the top of my list of influences. Her name is always the first to come out of my mouth when people ask which bassists I love the most. More than anyone else I've heard, she embodies what I love most about bass. Her conviction on the instrument is unsurpassed, as far as I'm concerned. I'll add that, to me, Me'shell has an incredible amount of musical integrity. I always find that, whether I like what she's producing or not, there's an honesty in her approach to music. A unique artiste, to be sure.

I have never found her to be a particularly unique talent on the bass either technically or melodically. She's good, yes, but let's not get excited. She has a super great personality though so before the overly-sensitive start screaming "hate" and other words they don't understand, let me at least get that out there.

I think Meshell would be the first to admit she is not a super chops sort of player. I just think she has incredible groove. Her first two albums are the funkiest I have ever heard.
