Messed up amp

I have an Eden Nemesis N12S combo and I think there might be something messed up with it. What happens is that when I play certain notes on my bass. It's sounds really overdriven andmessed up especially when I play (any) E, but also on some other notes. The sound is almost exactly like the sound of Flea's amp when he has a little solo before Around the World on Slane Castle (if that's any help at all). It's pretty annoying. Any ideas on what this is and how I can fix it? When I record my bass direct in or through the recording out on the back it's clean with no overdriven sound at all, so I'm figuring there must be something with my amp.
Starting to drive me nuts, especially in non-rock circumstances where it's outrageously inappropriate.

As your recording out sound is clean, the fault clearly lies either in the power amp or the speaker. I've had a look at the user manual for your combo, and it looks like it isn't possible for you to unplug the internal speaker. That's a shame, 'cos if you could do that and plug in a different one, then you could play through that to see if the fault is still audible. If it is, it's your power amp that's faulty. If not, it's your built-in speaker. THe best you can try is to plug in an extension speaker to the spare socket and listen to see if the wierd noises appear on both speakers or just the internal one.

Obvious comment: if the combo is still under guarantee, don't open it up - just get it serviced by a pro.

Following up to this because I found this rather silly:
I had recently placed my combo near/partly beneath my desk with my computer on it (for recording purposes). It was around that time that I started noticing the problem. It had been drivingme crazy because I didn't have any clue how I might have broken or damaged my amp. After some careful auditory snooping, I realized that my "overdriven sound" is the widest drawer on my desk vibrating up and down. :p
I'll just take my desk with me if I ever want to reproduce my overdrive again!
