metal basses

what would you guys suggest for playing metal

bands like Arch enemy, Dimmu borgir, cradle of filth, lamb of god, etc.

budget around 2000, that includes an amp, no huge amps just something that sounds good in my bedroom and maybe a small band no gigs yet

I suggest an ointment, it can probably be cured

:hiding::p

seriously though, this thread again?

also anything will work for metal, as anything will work for jazz, funk, soul, pop, punk etc... just get a bass and amp you like

Welcome to the forum rhapbus. :)

You'll get some snippy comments on this question. That's nothing against you personal, it's just that this question gets asked twice a week. ;)

Any bass you personally like will do for metal.
It's not what you play, it's how you play it. :bassist:

I personally like precision basses.
And I like to play metal.

So a precision bass is the best bass for metal...

... for me. :)

For you, only you can figure that out.
Try out as many different basses as you can, and see what sounds best to you.

i had an ibanez sr 405 5 string and now im playing a cort curbow 4 string anything works whatever you like best don't let stereotypes in metal make you play a certain kind of bass. If you like a P-bass then play it if you like an Ibanez then play it whatever is comfortable for you.

I've got my pitch black Esh Stinger IV for anything metal.

But then again, you could use anything. And what kind of metal do you mean anyway? The guy from Opeth uses a Fender Marcus Miller bass. Bands like Chimaira and Ill Nino use ESP basses. Loads of bands use Ibanez SoundGear basses. Mostly metal in my opinion would be just about any Warwick bass. Just don't get a BC Rich. They're only cool if you paint your face and are under 18 years old.

First of all go used that will stretch your budget quite a bit....

as far as a bass goes make sure that you get something that is 35" scale or longer so it will hold de-tuning well (as rest assured the bands you mentioned tune down a whole step or more)

brands.....all brands of basses have basses priced at certain points.....It is very important that you find something that (in this order) sounds, feels, and looks good to you as it will be your bass....I say it all the time

like what you play and play what you like...

that said take a look at

ESP
Traben
Spector
Ibanez
EBMM

as these would be my choices for Metal music

for an amp i would go with an older peavey head and a 4x10 cabinet

remeber used will probably stretch your budget almost double what you would be able to buy new....

and good luck
