Hartke is amazing for metal, especially if you're looking for a fairly clean tone or want a clean head that you can run effects over. The LH500 is only $350 new and is by far one of the loudest and best sounding amps for a bassist on a budget.

Cab wise I'd look into either a matching hartke hydrive cab or check out some of the discontinued used ampeg gear. I picked up a made in america ampeg bse410h in near perfect condition for only $150 and it sounds great. It says the power rating is only 200w constant 400w peak at 8ohm but im not quite sure if I believe that because I've tested ampeg PF500 cranked pretty high through it and got no cracking/speaker distortion out of it.

I play metal and in drop "C". I love my Carvin BX1500 amp into my BRX410 cab. It has always been more than enough for any situation that I have been in. Carvin gear is easy on the wallet too. Make sure your bass is set up for your larger gauge strings and the down tuning. Do not scoop your sound. MIDS ARE YOUR FRIENDS!!!!!

Hey guys, im looking to buy a new stack, and was wondering whats good. im currently playing out of a backline 600 head, 2x10 and 1x15 cabs, but i feel like its not heavy enough for drop C. either that or somethings not right with it. Either way, im looking to upgrade it and not looking to drop a TON of cash since i am a broke ass.
anyone have any ideas?

Backline series? I suggest selling everything you have and getting a used Ampeg 810e and a 600 watt head or better. The GK1001RB is a great choice. It's very loud, has plenty of low end going on and going through an 810e is plenty loud for almost every situation you can imagine. You can find an Ampeg 810e used for $500, sell the cabs and head you have now and you should have enough funds to get a used GK 1001RB.

The Backline series is budget gear and can work well when starting out, but the cabs are not going to sound too great and will not get very loud. Of course, I am comparing those cabs to moderate and higher priced gear.

Although you may think some of us are nuts with gear selections, we want to help you solve your issues NOW. A lot us, especially me, have WASTED so much money on crap gear. The suggestions we make are based on getting you something you will like and should work well for you - or at least get you closer to what WILL work for you.

I used to play in a grindcore band and I was a using a nemesis rs 400 and matching quad it had loads of volume and could handle distortion from pedals really well. Only thing the lights are damn annoying and the inbuilt dist. Sucks but for overall sound and power absolutely amazing

The simpliest and cheapest solution is to either replace the 210 with a 115 or replace the 115 with a 210. I'd choose the first one. Either way make sure the cab are the same. Most likely the reason you are loosing low-end is due to phase cancellation from using different sized speakers.

I'm not a "metallurgist" but if you're on a tight budget and you're looking to be loud enough in drop D/C, then perhaps look into one of the class D power amps like Peavey IPR or Crown XLS drive cores and either another matching 2-10 or 1-15 (don't mix, it's one or the other), used if possible.

Then use the effects send to the power amp input, your BL600 is now a preamp.

Add another 1-15/2-10 and power that w/the BL600 for either 6-10s or 3-15s if you so desire. More than enough power and well under your budget.

+1 on Crown XLS or Peavey IPR. Pair it with a preamp effect pedal such as Tonehammer, Rusty Box, VT Deluxe or Darkglass. (buy used). Sure, there are more "cool" bass amps there, but hard to beat the price for this much power and tone. Ditch the 2x10, get another 15" cab. Even better, if you have basic carpentry skills, build yourself a fEarful 15/6 cab. Add another 15/6 can when you can afford it.
