Metronome for a beginning bassist..

I didn't read the thread, just your question - so I apologize if this is a repeat - but I bought an app for my iPhone called "Guitar Toolkit" and it has a bass tuner and metronome. I think it was like $10? I use that sometimes (more for the tuner) but more frequently I'll play along to drum tracks on YouTube when I'm practicing by myself. That way I can create my own lines but still follow a beat. I also have the "Drum Beats+" app and I think that cost the same, you can buy different music packs too. I find it much more enjoyable to play along to drums rather than a click. The YouTube tracks tend to have more variety (intros & fills) just like a real song would have - while the app will just keep looping the same beat until you hit stop.

Could be wrong, but I don't think the iPhone will multitask watching YouTube while running that metronome app. Perhaps someone can confirm?

I have a simple metronome I downloaded called 'tempoperfect'. Actually the default beat starting giving me headaches because it was so high pitched, it has an option to put in whatever .wav file you want so instead I have a bass drum sample instead of the 'bleep'.

I have an old west german wittner. I don't like it because it tends to be very cumbersome
adjusting tempos while holding my bass. After a while the "click" gets pretty monotonous as well for me. For practicing I prefer a drum machine. DR-880

I really like very simple metronome, I think it isn't necessary to have subdivision, if you can't hear them, you can't hear them and you shouldn't need too rely on the metronome for it or a drummer for that matter.

This is why I really like the very old school where you have to crank it then give it a swing and here it goes.

ImageUploadedByTalkBass1366459578.372286.jpg **** yeah! thats my baby! this metronome can make cute little drum loops too! gotta try it out guys. and uve got timers so u can time what ur doing lol... and u guy 15 different sounds! and customize ur beat. and an iphone 5 is prettier, thinner and the most expensive then any other digital metronome on the merket! go go I phone!

okay got a little excited! but everyone should try this app, out of all honesty!
