Metronome that senses BPM?

I've been practicing with the same old mechanical metronome for about 25 years. But I find myself in a situation now where I'm hoping for a device (or app) that can detect the BPM of a song that a whole band is playing and displays.

Does such a thing exist?

I use an app which does have a tap feature. So yes, you basically just tap the screen in time and it picks up the BPM. The one is use is the Soundcorset metronome on Android

Google "tempo detector app". You'll get results to choose from. Some simpler apps that you tap the beat. And others that do it automatically by listening.
