Whenever we go to Las Vegas we eat at a place called Diego. Although it looks like they have changed their name.
Always loved the food and for Las Vegas it was not that pricey even if some of the reviews say it was. Killer quacamole made table side and the margaritas were yummmmmy!

I think Taqueria De Anda might have them. When you see one, order the Al Pastor!
Mexican shwarma (AKA Al Pastor). Marinated pork slow cooked on a rotating vertical spit. It's delicious!
Oh wait a minute...so is that how all al pastor is made? I was under the assumption that was the Northeast Mexico version
I have to find this in my area. I've never heard of it, but it sounds most tasty.
Alright, so how did the get it to look like that? Did they just stack a pig on a rod and start cutting it up?

I believe Al Pastor by definition is cooked on the spit.

You won't be sorry. It *is* pretty rare though.
I believe it's essentially a giant pile of thin, steak-like cuts of meat. When someone orders, they carve it off the outer edge.
Gotcha. I have seen those meat stacks before, but never figured out how they get like that.

I haven't had Al Pastor in ages and I couldn't stand it anymore. The Taqueria de Anda in west Anaheim does indeed have a trompa/spit but it wasn't loaded. I got an Al Pastor burrito anyways.

Went there Sunday night with my wife after the TB GTG nearby. Still exactly like I remembered it from 25 years or more ago. That's a good thing!
Not since we got back to WA. There used to be a joint by our house that had it, but they closed up and turned into a Cheers while we were gone.
Awesome. I've been going there on and off for the last 25 years myself. The wife and I will be up there for lunch Saturday. Always the same for us too, which I also find to be a good thing. Oh boy, now I can't wait till Saturday.

My wife was like: "sure you know where this place is and it's still there?"
Me: "2nd and Bell, and someone just mentioned it on TB a few weeks ago." We were staying at the Edgewater and it's just a short walk from there. I even ordered my usual from the specials menu, chile verde. My wife can be quite picky and she loved the place too.
That is so great to hear. Mama's is a hidden gem of Seattle dining. We take all our out of town friends to Mama's and/or The Hurricane.
