MIA Butterscotch P-Bass is calling to me - pricing tips?

My favorite local music shop has an '06 Fender Precision MIA in a fantastic butterscotch finish. It is "new" -- hasn't left the shop, still has plastic on the pickguard, etc.

This version has the S-1 switch on it, which I doubt I'd get much use of, but that's a minor concern to me (might even consider replacing).

Plays and feels really great, no finish flaws that I've found. As much as I love my trusty but beat-up '98 MIM Jazz, I'm drawn to the idea of something new in my arsenal, and something really nice that would be a great player as well as something that will likely hold its value reasonably well.

The shop is asking $1,000 for it (including HS case).

For those familiar with this particular model: how's that price sound? I'll see if there's wiggle room, but I'm just trying to gauge if that's in the right ballpark...

Mmm. It has been sitting around the shop for 5 years, which would make it worth as much as a used bass to me, and I would price it accordingly. A grand seems a bit steep to me.

That's about right. I believe the typical street price in 2006 was $900-950, but better deals were available. I bought the same model new in 2004 for $700 from an authorized Fender dealer, but that was a steal. You'll get the warranty, which is worth something, but I'm not sure I'd go over $850.

I just asked my good bud who owes a store. He said 850-875 but he doesnt blame the store for marking 1000 because they never know when someone will come in and either pay that or offer 900 - 950

I bought that exact model (in Shoreline Gold) new for about this price.

yeah i bought a sunburst version for 800 at a samash near perfect condition.. 1000 is overpriced. cant you buy an american standard for around a thousand?

If it were me I'd probably see if they'd take $850 out the door. Do these usually come with a case? that's a nice part of the deal. I LOVE the butterscotch finish!
