Mic a Practic Amp?

I play bass in a church worship band (pretty much a rock feel) and have generally run direct in the past (through a BBE Acoustimax).

As somewhat of a joke, a few months ago I brought my 28 watt Epiphone 8" practice amp to see how it would sound. We close-miked it with an Audix D6 (actually pulled to tolex and set the mic about 1/4" for the driver).

To our surprise, it sounded pretty darn good. It had a lot of tone and punch in the house and even handled the low-b pretty good after a little eq adjustment on the board.

Just curious... has anyone else done this?
