Mic amplification

I know that this is not the best place to post this thread, But I think you guys know what's best.

So here's the sitrep: My new band has everything we need accept a way to amplify the vocals. I'm searching for a decent combo thingy that could get the job done. It doesn't have to be something really really big, just something we can use for reheasals. It does have to be louder than a 20W guitar amplifier, a 100W bass amplifier and a set of acousitic drums. Budget: as cheap as possible because We're poor :rollno:

Any suggestions ?
thx

daniel :)

Fender or Yamaha make small PAs, as does Behringer. Figure on spending around $400 for anything decent.
$400.00 doesn't buy decent.:rollno: Look on your local craigslist for a used PA. With the economy as bad as it is there are some good deals out there.. If you find something post a link and maybe we can tell you if it is a good buy. EDIT- I just noticed that the OP is from Belgium so maybe they don't have a craigslist.

We've got a craigslist but I'm not gonna find anything useful there. I think I better try ebay. I've found this :

you think these are any good ?

I would look for a powered PA cab and a small mixer. If you have just one vocalist you may not even need the mixer. With a powered speaker and a mixer you could later add another speaker and have a small Pa for playing out. Those items you listed in post 6 might work but they probably don't sound good since they are not designed just for vocals.

O.k.; here's one option:

The beauty of this is you can start with just this. It has enough gain to plug a mic straight in. As your budget increases, you can add a second one and a:

And you've got a basic vocal PA for small gigs. Add a third speaker for foldback.

wow, that would be cool. But are you sure you can the first product without any amplifiers of mixers ? Aren't PA boxes the same as bass or guitar cabs ?

No you can just get by with one powered speaker as long as you only need one mic. I don't like to recommend Behringer because of their business practices but these suggestions are along the lines of what you should be looking for.

Normally yes, but this particular Behringer has been designed with enough gain to run a mic.

I'd also add that one thing at this end of the market is that it's even more critical, in my opinion, that you use a decent mic - at least a Shure SM58. The cheap "3 mics for 39.99" or whatever will REALLY suck and you'll have lotsa problems with gain-before-feedback.
