MIC FOR A BASS CAB

Hi,

I want to purchase a mic for a Ampeg Heritage 810 cab with SVT 74 Blackline Amphead and an Aguilar Tone hammer DI a Tech21 Sansamp Bass Drive DI Deluxe.

In your experience what is the go to mic for most pro sound engineers and bassists for bass cabs.

It will be used for both live, studio and broadcast.

Hi Seth, I haven't used a ton of different mics as I'm more of a DI type if guy, but I did some research years ago when I was in the market for one, and ended up buying an Audix D4 based on the fact that it was what Patittuchi had been using (at the time at least).I've found it to by a very open and full spectrum mic that repros the signal very accurately.
I'm sure others will chime in as well.

My favorite mics for live work in this order are the EV RE-20, the Heil PR40 (got one of them), the Sennheiser MD421 and Beyer M88 if you like a slightly brighter sound. If you're on a tight budget, I haven't tried the AKG P2, but its specs are ideal for bass, some friends of mine have tried it and really like it, and it's $100. Congratulations on the Heritage 810, BTW...best cab Ampeg's made ever! Has the tone of the early flatbacks but handles over 3x the power.

RE-20, M88, 421, SM57, PR40. All great, all fun. What is the most go to? I'd say RE-20.

As long as we're asking questions...
I've also seen the RE-320 recommended. Is that still a good option or have I been misinformed ?
