Mic inside bass cab?

One problem is that you are now micing the inside of a resonant cavity, so the cavity reflections will become part of the sound because the off axis rejection of the mic is by no means perfect. In fact, it may be pretty poor within the box.

Wouldn't hurt to try but don't expect good results.

Just mic the cone with a 57 the regular way and use the DI to add in the deep lows, roughly <100hz-ish.

Or get a bass specific mic and ditch the DI altogether.

+1 this would be my exact suggestion too. I used this kind of configuration and philosophy on my last album (blend of DI from amp head and SM57 on cab).

I suspect that the microphone's diaphragm won't last too long when exposed to the full pressure within a speaker cabinet.
