Mic trouble!

I think I may have bust my mic, a sennheiser e902 which until now has been first class. Had it in the usual position as normal a few inches away and angled towards one of my lower 10'' cones on my 4x10 and well, the mic now distorts and crackles. Had to leave my rehearsal space in a rush and all depressed so havn't had a good deal of time to test it some more, put it into a different input in the mixer and switch the leads around. Never has a mic bust on me before but I fear the worst. Is distortion and crackle, as the level of noise that goes into the mic increases, a sign of a broken mic?!!!
