OK, maybe not Pete. These guys are seasoned pros with staying power. They don't get there, they don't stay there by hammering root eights. Get these guys outta their "band box", I'd bet most of us would be stunned. They fit their bands and were instrumental in their success. How you interact & "fit" with a band trumps technical expertise.

It depends upon the band, some like U2 or The Four Tops are life long friends and even if the star, the charismatic front man was offered a solo contract he would refuse and that original band would stay together until death split them apart.

I keep on because YOU KEEP THROWING DARTS AT ME and egging me on! I think the guys a stiff, and you keep trying to convince me otherwise all the while throwing jabs and insults at me.

And I couldn't disagree with your second stament more.......
Anyone who releases an album, plays a show, posts a video on you tube, or uploads a demo on myspace opens themselves up to critisism, THAT'S THE WAY IT GOES! IF Michael Anthony, or you, or anybody else listens to my myspace page and wants to go on twitter or talkbass calling me a hack, he has the right to do so, I opened myself up to critisism by posting my work. Also you have no idea who I am am or what I've done, so I disagree with your third statement as well!

OK, I'll bite even though this is a no-win scenario for me. There is no possible way that you will listen to my playing and give it fair judgement, given the current status of our back and fourth banter. Plus, if you really like this guys playing, as it is obvious that you do, I don't particularly agree with your judgement of talent, but........... I am a big enough person, and confident enough in myself to throw it out there anyway! Even if all the Michal Anthony lovers are going to roast me!

This is for Mr. PRD400

I do know Michael Anthony has studied music in Jr. college and has played jazz with his father who was a horn player in a jazz band. I'm sure he is musically literate, meaning he can read.

If you are such a master musician than you should be able to read as well.
So define the measure of music you see below and tell me what scale the opening phrase is based off of and what note value is each note.

I checked it out, and you sound okay given the material... but I wasn't challenging your playing ability; I was challenging the blatantly truthless accusation about MA's career. I also challenged you to define what sort of standard "playing circles around" was exactly.

Well the truth comes out, you are not a musician just a player. Mike can read and you can"t. So you are musically illiterate and just someone who memorized fretboard patterns with a little rhythm.

I just listen to 3 songs of your music. While it is good, it isn't anything anyone else couldn't play. I hear no virtuosity in your playing, just playing a groove.

I first saw VH back around 1983, and saw most tours since, except for the recent tour with Wolfgang. I always thought they were a tight unit live, except for DLR's drunken rambling. I'm primarily a guitar player, but always loved watching Alex and Michael lock live. Great rhythm unit. I also saw Chickenfoot last year, and loved MA's playing.

MA's vocals were always a big part of the overall VH sound. When the debut VH hit, there was nothing like it out there. The whole sound, from the opening riff of Running With The Devil on the LP, the guitar, vocals, and harmonies were completely out of left field. I remember exactly where I was when I first heard that LP. MA was a big part of that sound, it's sad to me to see where it all ended up.

Well like I said there was no way I could win given the circumstances, but I was confident enough to put my playing out there none the less. Normally I would have just posted my links, let them speak for themselves, and bowed out of our argument gracefully, but you had to throw one more insult my way........

As for your "just a player who memorized a few patterns" that's just another base-less, immature insult added to the long line of them you have already thrown out today.

Once again you speak without knowing. I play four instuments, two professionally, I write, and I have a degree in sound engineering. And I never said I was a virtuoso, Victor Wooten is a virtuoso, John Paul Jones, James Jamerson, Jaco Pastorius, Chris Squire, Billy Sheehan, to name a few, these guys are virtuoso's. Michael Anthony is a basic, run of the mill, average rock bass player. I merely said I was better than him, and I still stand by that. Just about every musician I have ever played with would agree. You threw out the virtuoso term as if I had said it. The thing is the thread lives on long after the argument is over, and anyone can go back and read the posts and see that you have been putting words into my mouth all night long and then trying to use them against me, all because I don't think your boy is any good.
