They are but they still have distinctly different tones.
I just mention it because my old guitar player had a really soft-spoken voice. When using 58's all around, I always had to crank his mids and his level as well as set his monitor level lower to sort of trick him into getting on the mic and projecting just to get his level up with the rest of us.
Putting a 57 on him helped those issues some as the same qualities that make it a harsh mic for some just gave his voice some edge and helped it get into the mix with less extreme knob twisting trickery.
