Microphonic pickup cover?

I have a bass with a chrome pickup cover like an old P bass or Jazz bass. I know the pickup isn't microphonic.If I tap on the cover I get a ping in the amp and If I turn the gain up on my amp until it starts to feedback touching the cover stops it. Thoughts on how to stop it from being microphonic

I would try applying foam insulating tape UNDER the pickup cover. That should deaden the ringing enough to stop the microphonic feedback.

It glows in the dark too , it's kind of funny that because it's a fretless it's one of my most melodic basses.

I might try that, I wonder if mass loaded vinyl tape would work in a similar fashion.
