Seems everything I play on my new fretless is one microtone or another off no matter what I try.

My band says it's "out of tune", I say it's "experimental" and their minds aren't open enough. They play a D minor chord, I play a D 17 cents sharp. It adds a lot of... tension.

+1 fretless bass. No need for bizarre fret placings with a fretless bass.

I would love a microtonal/just intonation acoustic guitar tuned to A major. But bass? Just go fretless.

Yeah, except you have no idea where the proper points are to apply pressure on the fretless fingerboard! What are you going to do, locate each note that you want by playing with a tuner next to you, mark it with a sticker, repeat until you have the entire microtonal scale marked out on your fingerboard, play it until you memorize the locations and sounds, then remove all the stickers?? Yeah, learning how to play microtonal bass on a fretless is a ridiculous endeavor, which is why you need an actual micrototal base, so if nothing else, you can learn the proper sounds and locations before going fretless... So many people say "Hey you want a microtonal bass, just go fretless," well it doesn't really work that way...
