Midlife crisis checklist: [x] Motorcycle, [ ] Instrument

Hi all,

With a double whammy of COVID isolation and winter coming up I figured it would be the perfect time to learn a new skill and seeing as how I have no music in my life right now I am taking the plunge to learn bass guitar. Twenty or so years ago in highschool I remember enjoying it the most out of all the instruments so here I am.

Mainly here to absorb beginner information as much as I can before I throw myself into it. I have a secondhand Ibanez GSR200 which I gather isn’t anything to write home about but it should get me started until I know what I actually want.

It's really good quarantine relief—it's not unusual that the hour a day I practice is the best hour of my day. It's just soooo much fun.

I started on a GSR200 as well, good starter bass. The thin neck makes it easy to get around, and while they're not going to win any awards for cool tone, they sound fine. It was my only bass for about six months, and then about a year ago, I started buying other basses, and well, now I'm up to, uhh, six. So try to hold off on buying your second, because once the floodgates open, there's no going back.
