MIJ Fender Precision bass - no serial number

Hi all you cool dudes!

I just joined your Talkingbass today and want to appeal to your coolguy egos in order to conduct the black market research.

Please to let me know if actual musicians can detect my fakesky when I tell them $385 for Japanbass.

Hvala vam!

Well, not the nicest thing I read today for sure...
I did joined yesterday so that is true.

But I've been reading the Talkbass for quite some time. I actually wanted to get back into the bass game after not playing it for almost 5 years.

Since I'm living in Europe, second-hand Fenders are much more expensive compared to the USA, Japan or AU...
This one seemed as a bargain, tbh.

And I did got really good answers & tips on what to pay attention to. Very appreciated!
Considering that there is only a one poopy person amongst 20 other replies, I would rate this forum as one of the best places on the web.

Back on topic:

I still didn't got the pics of the neck pocket. After reading all the posts above, I'm 99% sure that this neck doesn't come from Japan. It could be a Squier or a MIM. Anyway, I would consider buying this bass eaven if it's a weird blend of different Fenders, but not before I see that neck pocket & of course try it out.
The reason is as I said, the Fenders are quite expensive here. Used MIM's are being sold for ~ 550$, USA for ~ 1100$, Japan are rare but they usualy end up somewhere in betweem.

Still waiting for the owners response. Must admit that the guy doesn't seem as a musician at all. Will keep you guys posted and once more, many thanks for all the useful answers you provided me with. Peace!

I am in no way a brand snob. If you can get your hands on the bass and it plays well, what is on the headstock is of second importance. As you stated, the Fenders are higher priced in EU, which is even a better reason to not worry as much as long as it plays well. I do feel that the bass is probably not a MIJ Fender.

That being said, there are lots of Fender clones that came out of Japan in the early periods, and many are great players. I've seen plenty of TB members with Fender water slide decals placed on Squires and other brand bases, so it does happen. A name is just that. If it played well and I liked it, I'd probably pursue it. As a little leverage, you could even offer him a little less, bringing up the point it's not a legit MIJ Fender.

Fender has a rich history of players swapping pieces off different instruments to build one that is perfect to them. John Entwistle or Eric Clapton are a few names that did so and ended up with great instruments.

With all the basses I own, my number one P bass I own is a beat up 1996 MIM Black Label Fender, because it's a heavily modified sum of parts. While many I own are far more thrilling to look at at hold, none sound better.

As a disclaimer, if you can't actually play it prior to purchase, I'd more than likely pass.

Since the Serbian website that lists this bass has watermarks on the photos that say the name of the online vendor (Kupujem Prodajem) and the ones you posted here don't, I'm gonna venture an educated guess and say you are the owner of the photos and so the bass - and you're posting it on Kupujem Prodajem for sale.

Well, I can definitely share my knowledge on how to remove the watermark, even though it's off-topic.
Just visit this one.

But I bet you guys from the NSA already know this :)

And I'm glad to know you have spare time for these things.

Regards

You got the info you wanted did you not? You can always make a new profile for the next time you need some expert consultation. Plenty of folks here happy to help. I'm just not one of them.

Sretno sa prodajom bro!

well, now my interest is a little perked. If you did get the pictures off that website, what was your motivation to go to the trouble of removing the watermark on the pictures?

Ok, lets break this into details.

There is no trouble of removing watermarks. I was just ironic towards the troll.
The websites watermark is actually trivial in a way. It's only done on the low-res photos here.
If you open the slider the watermark is gone.
Even better, with the little knowledge of the browsers dev tools you can easily track the image source like this.

The motivation to post the full res photos (which for some reason don't contain the watermark) is IMHO obvious. I could've expected better advice if the images are in full resolution. Somebody with an eye-for-a-detail could've seen something. And actually I was right... plenty of good points.

But I do feel a little bad right now. Should've probably just ignore the troll, instead of feeding it. In the end, maybe he isn't trolling around, and it's just the way he sees the world. Everybody's a potential scam unless proven otherwise...

In the end, it's me who's trying to figure out if the bass is a scam

Google translate is clumsy here, but you'll get the point

both of you have valid points. yes there have been folk that come to dedicated websites to find out information, be it for good or bad. Most of the time, its under honest intentions, but we have experienced those with ill intent here as well. If I post my intent is to not only help the original poster, but anyone else that can learn from my experience. I have dedicated a large part of my life to being a musician, and have built and bought a large amount of various instruments and other artifacts, to the point I feel I have a pretty good grasp in certain areas. As well, I have learned a great deal from others here, and Im simply trying to give back to others.

There will always be those that buy with their heart, and those that buy after doing research. I have done plenty of both. with the internet, its easier to arm yourself with good information these days, but along the way there will always be those trying to use it for scams. Im not accusing you of doing so, I hope that your intentions are good.

@JGbassman yeah, I understand that. I only wanted to get an advice from the folks that have experience with the basses from Japan. And I am very grateful for being able to get the info some members provided (including yourself). Cheers!

Don't know what to think, actually... part of me believes that he didn't looked at it at all :)

Anyway, it seems like I'll definitely pass. I had some hopes that it's a combination of original parts & that I could consider buying it.

Thanks everyone!
