Looks, baby...looks:
Black hardware & control cover. Pearl guard. (But I'm ordering a black one too, just in case. ) No face dots on the fingerboard. Matching headstock. Finish? Saved the juice for last. Candy. Apple. Orange.

There we have it. If you've stayed with me thus far...thank you. I'll add updates as info becomes available. Captain Obvious checking in here, but...I'm excited! One final note of thanks to Ed @ Gelb and Paul @ Mike Lull Custom Guitars...my goal with this thread is to have a bit of fun with the process, and that certainly couldn't happen without their nod of approval.

Sounds great! CAO will be sweet...I considered getting that color for one of my upcoming basses.

Thanks, folks! Confirmed the specs with Mike, Paul, & Ed. 60's placement it is, based on the 35" scale. Definitely seems to be the right decision.

Good question, Cliff - I honestly don't know. However, the option/custom list is quite long, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was possible.

BTW,can't go wrong with the ash. IMHO,I'd go with the 70's pup spacing. To each his own,though.

Can't say for sure, but I don't think so...I've had my alder/rosewood M5V for over a year now, and I think things are still the same...

I certainly thought about it - and discussed it at length - but here's where the trust factor comes into play. Ed @ Gelb and Mike both know the sound I'm after - total ash/maple vibe, but versatile and with a still-mid-happy fingerstyle tone. Their feedback was that I'll be there with the 60's placement, and that the 70's placement, particularly with the 35" scale, would be way too much of an admittedly good thing.

62 days since first post... any updates?

LOVING my Lull, by the way...

Played it in my rock gig a week ago Saturday and literally made everyone in my band's jaw drop. Insane.

Wasn't super happy about the strings, and theset-up could have been better, so I swapped the strings and started tweaking...

Finally got it set up to absolute perfection this weekend, and my god... can't stop thinking about it.

All I want to do is play it.

I don't wanna stop.

Thanks for the assist, Addison! As it turns out, there should be a significant update on day 65. The bass is supposed to ship today. I'd hoped for progress pics, but they never developed. I'm hoping for a pic of the bass with Mike his ownself before it gets boxed up, but I haven't heard back.

I'm anxious...to say the least. I know what you mean about playing the bass, though. Between the feedback I get on every gig, plus how the bass just feels and sounds, it actually makes me wonder why I have so many other basses.

A CAO/Black Hardware/Matching headstock build... how in the h-e-double hockey sticks did I miss this thread?!?

Sounds like an absolutely killer bass based on the specs that you laid out, and those of us Lull owners/member of TMLC certainly know of Mike and the shop's commitment to great-sounding, high-quality basses. I also think the NTMB was a great call in terms of preamp choice - I'm generally not a fan of Bartolini pickups, but their preamps (NTMB & Aero 5-string Type 1s in my M5, NTBT & Fralins in my M4) just seem to work, period.

As others have said, keep us updated, and be sure to take a great many photos when she finally comes in!

Thanks, Ian! (FYI...your sentiment on the Bart J's isn't lost on me...in fact the guy who built the bass shares it .) My goal is for something just a little different, but still effective and, of course, valid. If the Barts don't make that happen, the bass will make a return visit for a set of Duncan SC's.

Okay, so Paul is the man! Here are a coupla' pics of the bass, along with the handsome devil who's name is on the headstock.

The pearl guard is on backorder, so I'll post pics of it installed later. Honestly, I didn't expect to like the look of the black guard so much...I'd ordered it as a backup/just in case deal, but to my eyes it's pretty awesome!

The bass should be here on Thursday - label me excited!
