Today, I will be talking about my Mills Custom Compass hybrid amplifier. This will not be an indepth review over all the different utilities of the amp, but more so an overview of what I think of the amp as well as my experience with Mills Custom. There were no overall reviews that I could find, and now there will be at least one.
I ordered this amp on November 17th, 2018.After the initial payment, he asked that I send a follow up email with all the design elements and specifics of the amp. The payment process and communications between Mills Custom and myself was awesome. I messaged them about once a week, whether to tell them to be on the look out for another payment(I didnt want my money sitting in Limbo any longer than necessary), or to check the status, and they were always kind and prompt, answering any questions that I had.
I recieved the amp Jan 4th(about a 2 week delay, which was due to a delay in getting a specific part). As soon as I opened the box, I was extremely disappointed. The amp, while beautiful in it's own way, looked nothing like that I had ordered. It was all light tones, with a wood faceplate while the amp I requested had dark tones with a white grill clothe. I had a show the next day, and could not afford to sent it back, so I decided to plug it in.
This amp sounds incredible. With my 810 fridge and Musicman Stingray, I quickly dialed in a great tone that sounded extremely pure to the instrument. I play with a pick, and tonally I have never heard anything quite like this Mills.
I decided it would not even be worth messaging them about the cosmetics(even though they would probably change it for me), as I didn't want to live another day without my Mills Custom amp.
Bottom line: 8/10
Pros: Incredible amp, easy to use, and quality build, customer service was great.
Cons: Didn't get any cosmetics that I asked for. Sad day
