MIM conversion is it possible?

The neck had a couple of blems on the fretboard. I used 000 steel wool on it this morning and re-oiled it. Much better now.

Eddie Van Halen’s guitar not only wasn’t cheap, the vintage PAF pickup alone is worth more than many of our entire instruments.

Just FYI, for future reference, there's another way of getting a 7/8" hole in the side, if a hole saw is problematic or impossible. I have successfully used a step bit to enlarge a previously existing hole that was loo large for a hole saw pilot bit. Now it's my preferred way of making a hole for a side jack.

I’ve used those and I chose the 7/8” hole saw. A new one was used. I’ve had plenty of experience with them both in the commercial door business I retired from. I couldn’t find my step drill.

I had the harness made by someone else. VVTT(stereo/mono switch). My soldering skills, as well as my hands on abilities... have turned to suck these days. Frustrating. My shielding job is terrible but must be better than nothing.

Got it wired up. The new harness went in smoothly. Replaced the 5 black bridge screws with chrome ones. Starting to slowly put it back together.

Finished the control mounting, all put back together. Installed some flats I had in the drawer. I’m not a flats guy, but it will be nice having one on hand. When I installed the neck I instinctively add a neck shim. Glad I did that.

It soundscgreat! Exactly what I wanted. And thanks to @Aceonbass for his great work on the harness. It works fantastic! It’s basically a Fender Jazz with Rickenbacker wiring! Thanks Dane!


I’m not really happy with placement of the output jack, it made sense at the time of drilling. It will work better with my right angle cable.

I was thinking of putting on chrome top Ric knobs, they have the labels on them.

I’ve been adjusting it for a while now. It plays pretty good right now. I repaired my right angle stereo cable too. So it works better with that cable. I wish I was in a band....

I need to find a decent case or gig bag for it. It does not fit in my Schecter P/J HS case. I’m not going anywhere soon with it though.

I ordered a case from Amazon. A Gator molded case. I used some cash back $.

Nice value for the money. It fits very snug.
