Hello everyone.
I found a used MIM 1993 Standard Jazz (sn MN 1704111, but the pic they sent me is not perfect) on a used gear site.
The guy put on it two EMG sjb-3 Quarter Pounder and a BTC tone circuit (Vol/Blend/Stacked B-T), battery under the control plate. The work was done by a specialized shop in his town.
Three questions:
1- could you tell me something useful about this EMG gear on a J? I mean, in terms of tone quality compared to the "Classic" (whatever it is...) J- sound;
2- something (pros, cons, etc) about the MIM of that period?
3- he asks 490 (including the stock pups): what about the price? (for comparison, in Italy the price -new ones- are more or less the following: MIM C70 750, AmStd 1180, RW60 1160, Squier CV 370).
Extra notes: after only 25 (!) years of bass playing, mostly as upright jazz player, I'm still pretty new to Fender world. I owned a late 80's or early 90's J which was absolutely horrible, and since then I never had Fender anymore. One year ago I tested the Squier CV60, and I fell in love with them (I bought the J, and soon after the P), equal to the MIM I tested and far better than Hw1. Now I discovered that the J is the bass for me, both for playability and sound. So I'd like to get about a real Fender (but in these times I can't afford one, and the used ones are still pretty expensive), and I'm wondering abou the kind of sound I would get from the bass I worte above.
