Mini Cooper opinions

A guitarist that I frequently play with (and one of my best friends) has a Countryman S, and I think its one of the coolest cars I've ever seen and driven.

We drove it to a gig 4 hours away once, and we fit my bass, his 2 guitars, his Matchless combo, and both of my Bag End 15s in the back. I got to drive it a bit on that trip, and loved it to death! Its like driving a giant go-cart. I'm 6'1" and 190lbs, and I had zero issues.

I want the new one (Crossman?) way bad.

The new one is the Countryman. The one with the barn doors is the Clubman.

I saw one that had a turbocharged hayabusa engine in it that was producing almost 600bhp. It was insane.

A good friend who is 6'4" got a mini. He got it because he was more comfortable in it than in just about anything else he tried. The front seats go way back. They're actually very comfortable cars for tall dudes.
Just not in the back seat.

Slightly off topic, but how does your driver test and licence thing work over there? Is it the same in all states or does it vary?

Over here I'd say about 95% of people take their test on a manual transmission and then the licence covers you for manual and auto. But if you take the test on an automatic then you're not licensed to drive a manual.

Yes. As far as I know, no states make a distinction between the two. (I could easily be wrong, but I've never heard of it)

Had an '06 Cooper S and loved it, except for the clutch which I found rather heavy after driving a heap of Audis. Like driving a go-cart and with a few mods (chip, 15% smaller supercharger pulley wheel, intake, exhaust) it was a frickin' weapon. Never tried carrying any music equipment in it though.

Good luck getting it to hook at the track, the wheelbase is too short to handle a whole lot of power.
