Mini Rigs of Doom Four

that gk looks like this ross cab i just found, do you know what drivers are in it? 4"? I am taking mine out and building a ported or rear folded horn cab for them. They are loud as hell, but not bassey, mine are supposed to reproduce 40hz, there is no way they do by my ears, maye in a boomy cab.View attachment 522816tomorro i'm going to try it with les's old flying mole (mine!!!) 160 watt 4 ohm power amp, with a tube preamp. I also have a sub i'm working on using a bose driver to go with it.

Mine are 6" drivers, eminence I believe. Good luck with your build.

Finally get to join my favorite club#!

I got les isabina ' flying mole (great guy), here are a few rigs I came up with using that 160 watt piece of Japanese hotness!

Here we have mole @100watts 8 ohm into a Ross full range sealed 2 4"cabinet100 watt 8 ohm pushed with a matchbox db25 DI Box. Possible one could mount the Ross behind the drummer on a piece of drum hsrdware and use the personal in ear monitor beside it for most small gigs with full pa support I thin

Actually the Nady P.E.M. is definitely the smallest rig you could possibly have. HERE we have model eo3

You have the dustiest rig I've ever seen! Hit that thing with a damp cloth, and it'll probably get smaller! :D

Now we have the mole preamp ed with an ART tube mp studio tube preamp that has input and output control s, which is more appropriate to use with the mole as the mole only has an output (?) Knob and they recommend keeping it on 11 at all times controlling the volume with the preamp.

The dust is because we are refurbishing the bathroom direct ly overhead, plaster dust is everywhere, I used an angle grinder n saws all to remove the walls! I will clean! Where is my hot wife with the French maid outfit and feather duster when I need her? But then I would nt get much work done...

The main reason bass sounds so bad through guitar speakers (besides the fact that the drivers are not meant for the low frequencies) is that bass drivers need to move air to project sound. Guitar amps do not have to do this. Therefore, they are designed differently. This is why guitar players have always enjoyed tiny-sized combo amps that are insanely loud, and we have to buy a 150W 15" combo to keep up with the guitard's 15W 8" combo amp!
This is also why our mini-rigs are so cool; bass amp and speaker cab technology has exploded recently with smaller and more powerful options.

You obviously haven't seen all of those internet memes with the singer and lead guitarist taking home all the women, while the bass player just keeps accruing more basses! :)
I patiently await the day that the bass player gets the hot French maid girls!!!

How about the in ear monitor with our mini rigs? Maybe the drummer should have the earpiece tho. I have 3 ear sets here. Now that's a tiny driver...I bet it will sound great with these Dr Dre beats earphones, haven't tried it yet.

What makes those headphones so good? Is there a cheaper way to get similar drivers?

I'd still pick the bass over the girls tho. Have.

Stand Frontline and become the lead singer. Sting gets legendary tantric supermodel play so the tabloids report!

Digging up the Bose stuff. ..

I think it has a lot to do with the op-amp they use; there are a broad range of options, from cheap to very high-end. Because you're driving the signal through such small speakers at very low wattage, headphone amps and in-ear monitor systems can put big sound into small packages, even low frequencies. I have a Cafe Walter headphone amp that sounds amazing. Walter Harley is a master electrical engineer, and focuses on sound equipment and instruments. He has all the answers; he's a great resource to hit up for answers to questions about frequency, drivers, etc. Invalid Link Removed
Surprisingly, I use a cheap pair of Koss headphones that Walter recommended for use with his headphone amp, and the sound I get out of them is better than the $120 set of Sennheisers that I have. Go figure.

Here it is on a music stand. Coffee shop rig. Building a cabinet for the mole using the speakers from this ross, some tannoy studio reference monitor s, and a few bose 901 drivers. I have to figure out how to get the ohms right, and how to build the ported cabinet. I think 8 4" speakers, and one 8 should fit in a nice tighy cab . Using that good 1/2" birch plywood, and oak flooring we have left from the bathroom.

Your pictures are bigger than my Mini Rig...

Are they? I post pics using my phone so the. Camera is right there, looks good on phone. Guess I'll stick to thumbnail.

Bummer, I can't get the mole to work. I'm sure Les didn't rip me off tho, I'll try more di ND preamp combination s. I tried the matchbox di, N art tube mic pre, headphones out from an amp, and a balanced tube adapter type di. Lights up, turned knob all the way clockwise, used banana and bare wire speaker Connection s, tried several normal cabs, a 1. 15 community, a 2 x 10 cab, a 4 12, and that little ross 100 w 4 incher. By the way, plugged a different Amp and it was very clean crazy loud! All treble and midrange tho, no bass. AND I GOTTA have that bass...no. treble no trebdlt. The drivers are massive, I have seen smaller magnets on hartke 10s. Popped a 8"sub from a Philips home theater subwoofer, has a crossover already. I also pulled the Bose 901s, , and some full range mini 3" from studio reference monitor s. Lots of math coming to make this cabinet. I'll post the wreckage and speakers before I clean up.

I had begun Remo ing spezkers, I don't know what this circuit b oard and switch does, maybe change ohmz? It is labeled , can't read , mYbe you guys can. There is just the 2 speakers, no horn or anything. Lots of wires for 2 speakers and 2 outputs.

Last pic is carnage!

Two of the reference speakers have extra magnets glued to the backs, I knocked on off, odd ly to me it was reverse polarity, glued on repelling the other magnet, why?

Gosh I hope the mole isn't broke , it was packed so well...

My small rig for home as of right now. I had a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 stack, but unfortunately had to sell it. The 400RB is loud at 4 ohms, but doesn't scream doom as loud as the Genz. :meh:

IMG_20140903_150936_zpsn5bcogyb.jpg

The Bergantino cabs are a recent discovery for me; I have never played through smaller, louder, and more capable speakers! If you can get your hands on a Mesa Walkabout, it sounds amazing through the Bergs. I sometimes switch mine back and forth between the Scout cabs and the Bergs. They sound different, but both sound great.
My Glock Blue Sky sounds like it was meant to be played through Bergantino 12s. :)

I agree fully about the Bergantinos, they blow me away. I originally bought them and used them with a Genz Benz streamliner and it was phenomenal. I had no idea a modular rig would sound so good. Unfortunately, I had to sell the Genz. I've played a friend's Aguilar Tone Hammer through them and was also very impressed. These cabs work so well with almost any head I play through them that they never fail to amaze me with their size. I can hear the heft of every note and the clarity is great.

I also borrowed a GK 700RB briefly which also sounded stellar through these cabs. An NV series cab may be in my future.

GK MB800 + DIY 1x10 loaded with an Eminence Basslite S2010. The amp and all the cables fit in the gigbag pocket. I have to turn the volume way down, since the MB800 is a beast, but it's still pretty loud. Usually I run that head into my Ampeg 810, so maybe I'll get a cute lil MB200 to go with the 110 eventually.

Here's a quick n sloppy sound clip I made a few minutes after I finished the cab, running the GK a bit dirty:

Since I play in a doom metal band, it's a Mini Rig of Doom for Doom (four?).

I made my diy 10 with the 2010 and then replaced with the 2510 - oh way better. But both are set ups look about the same.
