Mini-SVT?

I just saw the information on this in Bass Player. Did not get a chance to read it. Something like $300 for the head.
I googled it and none of the dealers have it in stock yet, but as I recall, the price mentioned on sweetwater and the other website I looked at said $399.
That's not bad for a small package, major name and 150 watts.

Did anyone actually check the Ampeg website? We've already had a few threads on this, and their product page on it covers all the basics.

Damn, I was hoping that this little amp was a bad dream that would go away. I hope this amp joins the ranks of all the other discontinued/never released products everywhere.

My drummer's dad is a Loud Tech rep and he has an Ampeg Mini VR in his possession. I've yet to make it over to his dad's house to play the little bugger...but my drummer tells me it sounds awesome! He plays a little bass...and I trust his ear...so I can't wait to get over there and give the little fella a go!

Yep...I wish it at least had a tube preamp...but alas...it does not. Also the 2x10 is an 8 ohm cabinet and the head is rated max output at 4 ohms...I'm not schlepping around 2 of these 2x10 just to use the 150 watt head...I'd be back where I started with big gear.
I talked with my drummer's dad about the MINI SVT and he said Loud's idea was to make something that could be used on smaller gigs and recording sessions while holding true to what made them famous...also pertaining to design and aesthetics.
I told him that I thought it would be more of a novelty item...better looks than use...he assured me that it would not. He says they are taking extra careful care with the preamp and MOSFET output to make it sound like a true SVT.
We'll see...I should be able to make it out to his house in the next week or so and I'll certainly report on the MINI SVT in all it's glory!

I'll get with Mr. Duthu (my drummer's dad) and check on pricing as well as availability. Right now he is shopping the MINI SVT around to dealers in the Southeast getting the word out and letting them give it a go.
