Misconstrued Lyrics!

Back in the 90's I was in a band that did the Lemonheads version of "Mrs Robinson".
Instead of:
"Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon.
Going to the candidates' debate."

The singer started singing:
"Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon
Going to the pan to baste the meat"

I was like "DUDE! What the hell are you saying!?":eyebrow: :D

About 1975 I was back in Nashville and ran into Joe Lala who I had known from the 60s when I were playing across the street from his band, The Motions, which later became Blues Image. He was with Stephen Stills and Manassas. I went to his hotel and ended up riding with the band in the limo to the gig. Joe bet Stephen $100 he wouldn't change the lyrics to Love the One You're With from If you cant be with the one you love then love the one you're with to If you can't beat up the one you love then punch the one your with. He did. I don't think the crowd noticed.

A couple of weeks ago, I had to learn Pretty Little Lies. I couldn't understand the outro lyrics and couldn't find the lyrics for the version I was listening to. The lyrics I found were Pretty little lies repeated 4 times, but that was definitely not what I was hearing. I asked the guitarist what he was singing. He said it is You're a damn liar. He laughed when I told him it sounded like You're a down wire.
