My band has been holding a weekly jam session for about a year now. Spring, summer and fall we play outside under a 700year old oak tree. 4 guitars, bass, drums, keys, harp and anyone else who likes to play.
Backline includes 2 or 3 Fender deluxes, a Fender Bandmaster with 2x12 cab, a Mesa something, a Fender Blues Jr, and a 5000 watt pa. After much experimentation, I settled on a Peavey Mark Vlll head (600w@2ohm) A peavey 1820 cab (2x10 and 1-18) and an Ampeg V-4 cab (4x12). Volume set about 1/2 way up.
We have moved indoors to a 200 seat club. Heres where it gets unique. Same backline and PA except....... Bass rig. The best sound seems to be an Ashdown EB180 on top of an OLD Ampeg 4-10he. Input volume set to 1/4, output volume set just below 1/2. Just on the edge of overpowering the room.
Every bassist is very suprised just how killer this combo sounds. I am also because each piece by itself has OK sound, nothing to write home to ma about, just average sound. But together, wow!, and volume? I have never heard another 180 watts get this loud before. I am impressed.:bassist:
Anyway, I just thought I would pass this on.
