Mixer help

Hey all,

Right now I'm looking to pick up a mixer pretty cheap and found a Soundcraft fx16 and a mfx 12 for a nice deal. Which would you recommoned? The current speakers I have are two carvin tr1801's and two carvin 1503's. The only thing I want to add is 2 floor monitors.

So im looking to add 2 or 3 power amps correct? then 2-3 eq graphics depending on how many amps i get? Missing anything?

You need:

1 stereo amp and 1 stereo EQ for the 1503's
1 stereo amp (can use in bridged mode) for the 1801's
1 amp and 1 EQ for the monitors (1 channel per monitor is ideal but not strictly necessary)
1 active crossover

More channels (real channels; take XLRs) is better; they get eaten up fast.

sounds good, Any thoughts on the two mixers? I would assume the fx16 since it has 3 aux sends and not 2 like the mfx.

I'd go for more channels & more auxes. I'd make the same decision if I was spending my own money.

I have the fx16, and would strongly recommend that - it's a great sounding, reliable small mixer that's fairly versatile... When I mix for my band, I give the drummer and singer aux1 and aux2, and the guitarist and I share aux3's post fade mix for vocals only - that's worked out pretty well... When I mix for other bands that require 4 monitor mixes, I use an 8ch TRS to TRS snake out of the channel DIs(pre-fade) that I need for mixes 3 and 4 - into a smaller 8ch F1 Spirit mixer - works great 100% of the time...

Lastly - the fx16 actually has 4 aux sends, just aux4 is used by the Lexicon on-board effects(which are actually pretty good, if you play with them a little) - you *can* use aux4 with another effects unit if the lexicon isn't doing it for you...

Before the fx16, I had a Mackie mixer - although the Mackie was reliable, the fx16 sounds much, MUCH better...

Yeah, +1 for FX16.

I am looking into that one myself. Also love the A&H stuff, but a bit pricey. Love the Behringer features, but they sure don't look as solid as Soundcraft or A&H. I would love a 16 channel rack mixer, with FX, 4 aux sends, 4 subgroups, and 16 pre outs (I have 2 ADATs).
