Mixer stand? Or table?

Hey guys, facing a new issue in my latest band. Where to put the mixer?
In past bands where other people have owned the PA, the mixer was rackmounted in a large wheeled rack with all the crossovers and poweramps, or someone just sat it on a bar table on top of a smaller (4u) amp rack.
This is basically a small bar / club type system. The mixer is a Mackie CFX16. Mains and subs are powered, monitors are driven by a QSC GX7. Using the powered speakers' onboard crossovers. We can stick the single poweramp just about anywhere of course.
I'm doing sound from stage, and I own the mixer. I want it close to me. I can't decide if I should just get a small folding table to set it on, or a dedicated mixer stand.
On one hand, a table seems more secure but the bar may not always be able to spare one. And frankly, I question the stability of a mixer stand. What are y'all's thoughts?

We use a small 4 ft conference type table that I picked up at Costco. The legs allow it to set either very low (2ft) or at full height (around 36", I suppose). It's light, but very sturdy and holds our mixer that is in an SKB(?) mixer "box" and monitor amp. It folds flat so it's easy to transport. Seems to work well for us.

I'd go with a stand personally. It would take up less space. Why are you afraid to use one?

The small footprint is the main pro for using a stand. I like taking up the smallest space possible.
I'm mainly worried of someone tripping over the cables and tipping it over. They appear fairly sturdy, but you never know. I don't guess sitting it on a table is much more protection in that scenario though.
Cost being the other factor. Mixer stands I've seen online are $100+. I can get a folding table off amazon.com for half that.

Currently using a folding table for the powered mixer and the small rack. When we switch over to the Mixwiz, we will have it in a mixer rack on top of two other racks on a roller that I fabricated for it.

I usually put the mixer on top of my amp. I will put it on a table if there is room, but there usually isn't.

Not sure of the dimensions of your mixer- but this is a very sturdy stand. I actually have the next size-up... (550)... and folds up compactly.

The character above me speaks with much wisdom. either get that, or get a proper cabinet to stick it all into. Pros of such a cabinet? space to hold spare cables, mics, and various other bits and bobs. or amps. or anything, really. i love proper mixer cabs.

I've always used something like this... may be overkill for your needs. The nice thing is it rolls so easy to load in/out and around stage for your situation. It also keeps everyone in one rack and the mixing console is at the right height to mix from. Even if you don't use all the space with equipment you can always put in a slide out drawer for all the mixed crap (cables, DI's, etc.)

Our mixer and outboard gear are in a 10 over 8 space rack. We use a keyboard stand.

Funny, I was just trying to make the same decision last week! I ended up with a folding table from Walmart which cost me about $14. I have a powered mixer, weighs 35lbs and the table says max load 30lbs.

I might pick up that workbench from Home Depot and keep the folding table for TV dinners.

I know this thread is old, but I was looking to solve the same problem, and I stumbled across Pet grooming tables. I haven't ordered one yet, but it looks absolutely perfect. They are incredibly sturdy fold-up tables.

I use this too. Works great. Lightweight and foldable, but will support quite a bit of weight. And it's fairly compact as well. Height is perfect for standing in front of the mixer.
