Phase issues come from differences in cabinet design and tuning due to differences in group delay, or by differences in passive circuits, not so much cone diameter. This can play a huge factor since more than likely the group delay will be different between the cabinet designs for a 2x10 and 1x15, especially if one is sealed and the other vented.
Comb filtering is caused by 1/4 wave interaction by speakers being placed a distance to where 1/4 wave length of played frequencies interact with each other. This is a spacing and orientation problem, not so much a cone diameter problem, not specific to 10's vs. 15's, but can be seen with same diameter drivers if played too high in the freq band.
The differences in walking around the room are not caused by the speaker enclosure, but by room nodes, or the resonant freq of the environment. Not much you can do about that, and the room sure doesn't care about your speaker sizes.
Basically, the suggestions of science are to use the same type of driver and enclosure as it eliminates unknown variables. But, there is nothing wrong with using different drivers if they work together and produce the sound you like. You may like the effects that phase differences and comb filtering produce in your sound profile. Chances are you will get more changes caused by diffraction and the environment than you will difference in cone sizes.
