Mixing a Split Signal (geddy style)

Hey guys, I've been reading these forums for some time, but haven't registered until just recently Some great stuff on here.
I'll try and get straight to the point though; I'm considering trying a geddy-esque style setup (splitting the bass signal into two separate preamps, and then mixing them together to get "my" tone), and was wondering what mixing console or other device you guys would recommend. I'm hoping to get the mixed signal into both a power amp and the PA, and on other occasions, just mixing them for recording. For initially splitting the signal I have my eyes on the little labs splitter, just can't work out what to do at the other end!

Geddy's signal is split three ways (low, clean high, dirty high) and he's lucky enough to have a sound guy who adjusts the balance of the three on a song by song basis.

Some people handle it by using a stereo power amp and two cabinets. Another way is to get a rackable mixer to blend the signals before it gets to the power amp.

If you're not splitting low and high frequencies, another option would be to get a pan pedal and run the signals to it. Then you could just blend on the fly.

In the effects forum theres a pedal board that does just that. He has 2 4 way mixer boxes and runs a SansAmp, PodXT an dsomething else, mixes/blends/balances them and sends them out to his board/amp.

Hm sounds like the rackable mixer is the go; would anyone be able to recommend any models? I'm guessing most would have a DI as well as a 1/4" output?
