Mixing differrent brand of strings?

I found out that mixing strings is a great way to do comparisons.
A friend gave me a Roto SM77 set (it was installed previously on an EB-3); tried to install them on a P, and obviously the G string was too short.

Replaced the G for a Fender flat, to really discover how I don't care for Fender's flat tone, and why Rotosounds are my favorite flat.
I disliked the Fender so bad that i managed to solder a piece of string on the Roto G to make it work on the Precision. It's holding tune so far...

Whilst rattling through some used sets quickly to do some comparing / contrasting, I just now found myself with my SB-1 strung with DTFs on the middle two strings and Chromes on the outer two:

45 Chromes
69 LaBella
89 LaBella
105 Chromes

Since I dislike the woody tones of the LaBellas E and the G, this mongrel combination is pleasing to my ears

And it feels pretty good, too

I decided to play this combo for a bit, see what I might learn from it. But before long I realised that I just wanted the other two Chromes back.

I know, what a terrible thing to have to admit, preferring Chromes to Deep Talkin Flats I shall have myself ejected from the forum
