Mixing/Editing Software

This is a simple question, but I can't find much information here. I have MP3 files of our band that I want to edit. Specifically, I would like to apply some equalization to entire tracks (bring up certain frequencies, bring down others). I have both Garage Band and Audacity, but I can't figure out how accomplish this seemingly simple task. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance!

yup! It's would be very simple with the mac!
just create or use a track in the primary garageband window (called "arrange" in the mac language). Now just drag and drop the mp3 file in the arrange window, this will assign the imported mp3 file to the track in the arrange. Now go to the right side of the garageband window, search for a menu called "composition" or something like this (I have the italian version), you will be allowed to choose a complete and quite good list of effects, that you can open in the proper square slots that are present in the composition-effects page. Just open "graphic eq" in one of the empty slots, select one of the many presets or choose "manual" to be able to adjust eq curves by hand, ops, by mouse...it's very easy, much more difficult to explain how to...try this, and enjoy

For the useful information. I was able to do some editing in GarageBand. An odd equalizer interface, but the price is right. I will try Audacity as well (I have had it for a while). Anyone know of a program that has like a 10 band equalizer can be applied to a track?
