Mixing two octave pedals..

Yeah, the Micro POG is a lot cleaner, perhaps sterile. It's a great sound for some people, though. I dig it. The roughness of analog octave pedals frustrates me. Most other pedals, I'd prefer analog, but the octaver has gotta be digital for me.

Hmm, i dunno. Sounds.. Fake? Haha naw man, if that's what you dig then cool. But I've always liked the warmness of an analog pedal. I might just do what MADChuudoku suggested, sounds like a good fix

I should be receiving a Pollyanna any day now. It does analog octaves, one up and two down. I'll let you know how it sounds. I had a micro POG and indeed tracks exceptionally but the tones were not great without a filter or some kind of distortion after it. My favorite for octaves so far was the BMS.

I was eyeing a Polly too.. Definitely want to hear it in action! I agree about the POG. I think I'd only get one just for the octave up feature. If only there was a pedal that did just octave up.. :\

I use an Aguilar octamizer in front of an Akai unibass. It works. Alternatively you can split the signal chain.

I'm guessing splitting it with an LS2 or Switchblade?

I have my octron 2 and oc2 split with my ls2 and run them both for a few songs. Really fat especially with distortion.

There are a number of analog octave up pedals. The Green Ringer, Ampeg Scrambler, various Octavia fuzzes, etc. they are all pretty much fuzz based though.

Well The Pollyanna came today and its a freakin beast. It's very glitchy, synthy. Only the upper octave really sounds good or tracks well solo.
The lower octaves are super fizzy fuzz and really need the consistent dry signal or upper octave to give them focus or to help the ear sort the fuzz into meaningful pitch. It actually works all the way down to Low B somehow. I guess it doesnt get significantly more incoherent as long as the ear has something coherent to relate to.
The upper octave is really stable and useable solo or in combination. It will play 5ths, 4ths, even 3rds. I'm very impressed. It's also pretty fizzy, I rolled the pedals tone knob all the way down and it doesn't lack in upper frequencies at least for my taste.
Running this into my OD smooths it out and focuses it a bit, it sounds great, really musical. Into a filter its really cool, excellent synthy goodness.
If you're familiar with the Devo Corporate Anthem. That's basically the sound I got with a pretty even balance of dry, -1, & +1. It's even better on guitar because the lower octaves are more coherent. The -2 gives those skinny little unwound strings some actual punch.

Yeah but like you said, they're all fuzz based. It's almost hard to find an octave pedal without fuzz. And if you do find one, it usually sounds digital

I'm not certain, but I think the DOD Octoplus goes both directions and it's cheap.

It's not almost hard, it's almost impossible unless it is digital. Distortion is essentially inherent in the processes of dividing or multiplying a frequency. Unless you do it digitally.
