That is a weird looking title. We will get used to 2020 being a year and good vision in a couple months. For now it looks wrong. What is not wrong is that hope springs eternal. This coming year will be the Mariners' year. The Cubs have a ring, the Red Sox have a couple, the Nationals have one, Oregon State has won some football games and the Niners are still undefeated. It proves that anything that can happen will. The Law of Averages. That is what it says. Steve Goodman will rejoice one more time when the Mariners win in seven, with the roof open.

Aside from that, it will be a few more years before Ichiro is in the Hall. Felix will be somewhere else or out of baseball. That is the saddest part of the Mariners' ongoing awfulness.

Rizzo wins his third Gold Glove, the Cubs pick up his $16M option for next year (talk about a no-brainer!), and he donates another $1M to a children's hospital. There's a fair amount of uncertainty in Cubsland right now, but not with this guy.

Interesting. The option was up there (17.8M) so I understand the move. The Yanks or someone else could sign him to a lower number, the Yanks could go with Glebar Torres. It takes position players time to recover from Tommy John surgery (Christian Vasquez, the Red Sox catcher, is a good example), Didi will be better this season and whoever picks him up will be getting a fine player and class act.

And the maneuvering that leads to the chase started a couple weeks ago. Maybe longer ago than that if you count the stuff that's not so official.

I sure hope to be able to figure out what the Mariners lineup is from day to day. They went through players like Sherman went through Georgia, with appropriately unpleasant byproducts. There were injuries, trades, and fire sales.

Kikuchi was not the pitcher he was expected to be when he signed. Maybe he will be this season. Is Gonzales an ace? Um.... Then there's Dunn and Sheffield. Those guys might be ready, or maybe not. Bullpen? What bullpen? Catcher seems like it's a fairly stable position, with Murphy and Navarez. Neither is headed for the Hall, but at least there's some inkling of who will be behind the plate. I don't have much confidence in Vogelbach at first. Or at DH for that matter. Nola might step up. I hope so. Gordon at second or somewhere in the outfield? He's a veteran, which means he might be trade bait. Maybe. Shed Long at second and Crawford at short could be good in a year or two. They are pretty raw for now. Seager will stay at third, at least for now. The Mariners don't have an obvious competitor for the spot. Lewis looks like a good prospect for center if he can keep hitting. I don't know what's up with Mallex Smith. Haniger in right if he can stay healthy and not go into long slumps. Santana in left. The rest of the outfield guys on the current roster are below the Mendoza line hitters. It could be an OK lineup, but there's no obviously reliable .300 hitters, no depth.

They will stay healthy, have career years, and will win the 2020 World Series. At least until the season starts.

OK...not my Rangers specifically...they are utterly Awful...I don’t mean to drag ya down with me...but the NHL puts on a helluva show... :thumbsup:

My guess is they move Torres over for a year and hopes he finds his glove, put LeMahieu back to second base.

By the way,I'm guessing home runs will be back down some. There is no doubt in my mind the ball was heavily juiced. The World Series was popular, even with smaller market teams, and fewer home runs. Having made baseballs myself, I know it will take a very small adjustment to fix what they broke.

shakeup at the top for the astros. owner's son takes over position of nolan ryan's son, who is kicked sideways (and down?). nolan ryan leaves in a huff. another asst. g.m. on the way out (to g.m. for another team?).

current count is down 2 asst. g.m.s and one figurehead, up 1 nepotistic promotion.
