Mod sticky request: set up effect on a basses playability.

Of course this would need to be explained by someone with better articulation with words and more knowledge than myself.

I think that a sticky about how set up effects playability would really help new players. Many people go into a store and think a bass sucks because its not set up for their style, or its set up like crap because no one cared for it enough to treat it to a little work.

Just my opinion. I know that its the sort of post that might go into the set up forum, but many beginners just don't know that its a set up, or even what a set up does. So they look/post here.

And after reading a few other posts, maybe someone could also post some basic, scientific info on string tension/scale/gauge to help the newer bassists to get a good grip on the physics of their instrument if they are so inclined.

It's only useful if they read the stickies, which are commonly ignored. The Wiki would be a good place to put "introduction level" information, but it's existence would have to be advertised...in a sticky. :hmm:

PS- What I'm saying is that, to some extent, the repetitive newbie posts that bore and irritate the old salts just kind of come with the territory of being one of the experienced, knowledgeable people on any forum.

I will agree.
Thanks for the perspective.
