I am wondering if this Richenfaker would make a decent modding platform in teaching a HS kid to work on basses with the end result being his personal player?

Modding a Ric Clone

As a teaching tool - yeah, why not? If it's one one of the Chinese "Chickenbackers", it's no loss if it gets trashed; and it probably needs mods -lots of mods, IMO - anyway. And if it winds up being decent enough to be a personal player, hey, thats good, too. Just be sure it doesn't say "Rickenbacker" on the TRC - and tell the kid why...
