modding an SX

hey,

I was wondering if an original Fender P neck would fit an SX PBass (SPB57) body.
has anyone tried that?

what about putting a BAII bridge? can the pre drilled screwholes be utilized for the installation of such?

neck- i think the neck fits in the pocket, but the holes dont line up.

BAII-yes, it will fit without additional mods.

tape, you're one to talk about searching before posting, you screw up with stuff like that all the time.

But on the actual subject, I tried to swap the necks between my p bass and my sx jazz, the holes don't line up. Now, I know that the pocket sizes aren't the same , only a small difference, but I'm not sure about this but I think that its the SX neck pocket is a bit bigger than the fender. You could probably use something small to use as a spacer to fix this I guess,I haven't tried.

I've done similar searches on this topic, except mind you I was swapping a fender j-bass neck (not a p-bass one) on to the SX QMD (SJB-62) body, and what i found was -yes they fit, but there is a small gap on the g-string side. It won't match up if you had the much older (by now) 34.5" scale SX models. It would match up with the 34" scale SX [jazz] basses. Not sure about p-basses. I also read that the neck pocket of SJB-62 and SJB-57 were different. Mind you I haven't done it myself and this is strictly referencing others' experiences.

I never came across reading anything about the holes not lining up this is a first! You are using a standard Fender P-neck on the same bass i have. So could it also apply to a Fender J-neck on the same bass i have? Do the holes match up?

I do recall reading that Fender basses can use these necks interchangably. I did not read anything about people redrilling new holes, but i didn't go look for anything to read about that, so thats a good search topic.

This is a pretty relevant topic actually, cause I was about to drill my new fender spec jazz neck (thats coming in the mail), to SX spec'd screw holes so they line up. If it didn't line up with a standard fender jazz bass then that kind of screws the whole point of my future projects with this good neck which is worth 2 times more than the SX bass.

if you dont already have the SX, and just want a body to go with a good neck, id say warmoth gets you a pretty nice P body cheaply... and its sure to work with the neck.
